March Slice 26

  The Cats of Julia
Julia brought many cats and took them all home.
But she had no food for them to call their own.
Two of them died the following day.
They were sold, Julia's dream now had a way.
But a little while later, drunk driver Avery came along.
When the cat bodies hit the windows, they made the sound PONG!
Selling them to McDonalds made a path to show
How Julia's cats would live to this mo'.

Darwin Awards
The Darwin Awards are "Named in honor of Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, the Darwin Awards commemorate those who improve our gene pool by removing themselves from it." In other words, they are given if to those who died incredibly stupid deaths. Examples:
  • The robber who broke into a FIREARMS shop
  • The man who asked to be killed so he could be resurrected by an AMATEUR
  • Two men who took selfies with a WILD ELEPHANT
  • 90 MPH
. I hope you liked this! Find the link at http://darwinawards.com/darwin/

Fyre
Fourteen year old Septimus Heap, apprenticed to ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand, at last has a chance to destroy the Two-Faced Ring, golden prison of Darke wizards Shamandrigger Saarn and Drammandonnar Naarn, by putting it into the Alchemical Fyre. But five hundred years previously, the Fyre was extinguished because it grew out of control. On top of that, a Queen several thousand years past had shot both with a miniature crossbow, provoking them to swear veangence on her descendants, including Septimus's adopted sister Jenna Heap. Jenna doesn't know how she can deal with both that and the looming pressure to become Queen and suceed her dead mother at last.

Almond Roca
=
AWESOMENESS!!!!!
The title is self-explanitary, but I will explain an almond roca to anyone who has  the misfortune to never taste it. First, you see the wrapper. The rocas themselves are about 2" long and have a gold wrapper with the words ALMOND ROCA written on them. Then you unwrap it. A delicius smell I can't describe wafts through the air. The roca is covered in milk chocolate with a bunch of almond pieces in it. You can scrape off a piece of the chocolate and encounter something hard that is toffee in a  rectangular shape with larger almonds in it. You take a bite of the toffee. It tastes like delicious toffee with almond mixed in.

March SOL day 21

Pathfinders
Pathfinder is a role playing game, or RPG, I play. It is (usually) set in medievel times. You have certain rules and restrictions in creating your character. You start by choosing your character's race (human, elf, dwarf, hafling, half-elf, half-orc, gnome), abilities, and personality. Then you pick a class, which defines your strengths and weaknesses, as well as your powers. Common classes are barbarians, bards, clerics, druids, fighters, paladins, rouges, sorcerors, and wizards. As you level up, you unlock new powers. However, my character, an elf bard, has some problem with nearly getting  killed in EVERY DARN FIGHT!!!!! I think her armor is too low, as she has just a +4 chain shirt and +1 Dexterity, making her Armor Class 15 (using weapon attack bonusus you have to roll a 15 or more to hit her); or, being the only girl in my questing group, the enemies for some reason love killing girls; or I just have too low hit points, even though that number is common in my questing group.
This is a long video on how to build a character using the Beginner's Box:

Fencing
Fencing is a sport I do. It is really fun. I am pretty good at it. I started this around this time last year. I was pretty bad when I started. Over time I got better. Fencing is an event in a pentathalon, which composes fencing, running, swimming, horseback riding, and archery. It is also an Olympic sport. I find it funny that I am better at medievel sports like archery and fencing than most modern ones like soccer and baseball.

Five Feet Under
I woke up excited. The blizzard had stopped! I had traveled to my family in California and was in the cabin when it had started as a snowstorm. But normal snowstorms do not go on for so long you see, through the huge front window, the snow piling higher than the top of the sofa. I had never seen so much snow in one place before.  That day my mother and I walked out into the front of the cabin and a little off the porch. Then we began to dig. When we hit solid ground it was far taller than I was. Mom, her head a little above the top of snowy walls, said that it was about five feet. We set about digging the walls and other parts of the fort. I suggested that there be a small pit in the front to hold pre-made snowballs. Mom used the snow from the pit to make said snowballs. When Uncle Marty walked by we threw a snowball and missed, revealing our location. The snow fort has long since melted, leaving a flood of memories.

Spirit Animals
At my school, Logan, we get to choose a unit- a topic we want to study- each year. Yes, I know most people reading this will be other Logan students, but I do not want to confuse people who do not attend Logan. My unit is spirit animals. I am very exited to work with this unit. I want to do a survey on individual spirit animals soon and look for trends in age group and gender.

Darke
Septimus Heap was very scared. His Darke Week, taking on a Darke project of his choice, was nearly upon him. He had an idea what he wanted to do. In the midst of Banishing Tertius Fume, an evil ghost who had tried to kill Septimus and siege the Wizard Tower multiple times, Septimus's tutor, ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand, had accidently Banished kindly ex-ExtraOrdinary Wizard Alther Mella, who was like a father to Marcia. Septimus decides to go to the Darke Halls, home of Banished ghosts, and rescue Alther. At the same time, a Darknesse is slowly creeping over the Wizard Tower, the Palace, and the Castle. Septimus knows he will need help from Marcia, his adoptive twin sister Jenna (if bieng born at the same time and being adopted into his family makes her his twin), his dragon Spit Fyre, and Marcellus Pye, the Castle Alchemist, to battle the growing Darke.

March 16

I waited, breathless, as I prepared to go in. I was just wearing a swimsuit, and, as I entered the water, what appeared to be a giant mechanical bubble. I had to go slowly and was weighed down by the "bubble". We (me and a bunch of other people also doing this) had to move along an iron rod placed there for this purpose. Some workers passed us things like dead coral. As we moved further along the rod, I noticed the purpose of a structure on the side. I knew ASL letter symbols and spelled SHIPWRECK to Mom, who had no idea what I was saying. We had our pictures taken after that to compile into an hour-long video. As I got on the boat, I thought how lucky I was to have a book to curl up with.

A Place in Time
This blog is for the benefit of those that didn't see the IS show, A Place In Time, last year. The IS (intermediate school) play is created by the actors and written by the director. The three ideas were contemporary, medieval, and time travel. Time travel won a thin margin over medieval, so we decided to do time travel to medieval times. It was so cool. If you go to Logan, the library kept the tape.

Invisible Fish
Thea had invisible fish in her blog. I saw that they are all black and the food is white, unlike my blog where all the fish and the background are white and the food is black. It was really hard to get them on to my blog. I hope that putting them on my blog works. I am not going to tell  anyone how. I can only say that computers are stupid sometimes and it may not work. I hope it does.  If you can, please comment on whether you see them.

Rump
Rump is twelve years old, but he stopped growing when he was eight. And even then he was small. In a land where your name controls your destiny, he is the butt of everyone's jokes. When he was born, his mother only got out the first part of his name before her death. He knows there is more to him than he knows so far. Living on The Mountain, he is forced to mine for gold, his results determining his rations. One day, he finds his mother's old spinning wheel. When all the wool in the house has been stolen by mischevious pixies, he starts spinning straw. For some odd reason, it comes out as gold. When he has almost starved, he trades gold to the fat greedy miller. But as his friend Red has warned, the side affects of magic can be dangerous. He is unable to negotiate prices. When the gold reaches King B.A.R.F.(Bartholemew Archibald Reginald Fife), the miller claims his beautiful daughter Opal spun it. When she is taken away, Rump knows he has to help her. But the magic requires a price for each use. On the third night, Opal promises her firstborn child as a joke. Rump knows that when he learns she has given birth, he will have to go to collect the price he didn't wan't, and that Opal wasn't willing to pay. He must learn how to escape the price. But how?

To Describe a Glove
At first sight, it is just a glove. But I don't think it's just that. It is tawny brown, faded from long use. It has embroidery seams half an inch thick. They were likely once white, but are now somewhere between yellow and beige. The inside is coated with fleece that is wearing awasy at some places. The outside is old leather that is discolored and hardened in some places. I think it is from dipping into swamp water because on the thumb there is a clear line between the part that is discolored and the part that is not. My grandma gave me them at thanksgiving this year. They fit like a pair of gloves.

SNDGGBs
It was the time of  year for SNDGGBs, or Secret Non- Denominational Gift- Giving Buddies.  We were supposed to write down things we liked on sheets of paper.  n Max put them in a hat and everyone drew a name. I drew Eddie, an eighth grader from England. I saw one of the things he said he liked was meat, so I decided to get him a beef jerky. He loved it, but couldn't guess who it was. I also got fancy dark chocolate.Things persisted like this until we finally had to guess who it was. It was hard for Eddie to guess .The person giving to me turned out to be  not have guessed. As the final present, I got Eddie a bag of gelt, or chocolate wrapped coins. Fyoder gave me a small stuffed horse. It was a very fun SNDGGB season.Fyoder, a sixth grader. I could

Lighting Problems and Other Set Quirks
I yawned. I felt like I had been waiting forever.I knew this rehearsal was mostly about the crew, but I felt like the cast shouldn't just be sitting there. People came around and started asking if anyone wanted any pizza. I decided to order two slices of cheese. It cost $4.50. I was lucky to have a five dollar bill in my pocket. The pizza was very good. After lunch, it was time to start rehearsing. They started with the music for the first scene. However, there was a lighting problem that no one had any idea what it was. After sitting a while more, David decided to have the cast rehearse lines in the Myg. About to get started, Lori told us that we could come back in.they were still having a problem with the lighting, but they decided to go nevertheless. The play was completely different with all the sound and lighting. The best words I have to describe it are "really cool". We finally had all the props and set. The water pump even had water! I felt like I made a mess of my own lines. I skipped too many, I think. I did a good job being blind, but I apparently was too quiet. But I like to be an observer. Everyone else did a really great job. We only got through act I, but I am very excited to get this show on the road.

March SOL 6

It was 10am in the morning. I was kind of hungry. Dad told me I could make my own breakfast, so I decided to.
I had not had waffles in awhile and I wanted to try it again. I am very good at making waffles. I asked Dad where the waffle mix was, and he told me it was in the mudroom. I grabbed my favorite waffle mix and headed off to the kitchen. First, I looked at the instructions on the can. Since my Dad didn't want any waffles, and my brother was at a sleepover birthday party, I decided to make a half recipe. The problem was that the recipe called for one egg, and I didn't know how to get half an egg. Dad told me that if I put an egg in a bowl, mixed it up, and poured half in to the mixture.
After the recipe was done (but not the baking), I thought of "Twist waffles." I had gotten the idea from having cinnamon-vanilla waffles when I was younger. I wanted to try a twist that I had never done before and I had an idea.
I began to look for the vanilla. Dad told me he could see the vanilla, but not where it was on the shelf.  I thought it was the almond extract for awhile. When I finally found it, I asked Dad to give me a boost, but found it was the "Magic-Shell" chocolate sauce. Dad told me that regular chocolate sauce was in the refrigerator -- I had not seen any of this before. I added in half a capful of vanilla and a couple of squirts of chocolate sauce. I mixed them together and made one waffle for me and 1/4 for my Dad. We didn't have any whip cream, so my Dad suggested to put cold vanilla ice cream on the hot toasty waffles. It was delicous!

Almost Forgot to Slice

I was exhausted.  I was finally about to sleep. So I thought about if I had any homework on accident. I remembered about the slice of life challenge. At first, I didn't think it was worth it. But I wanted to have all the slices, even if I had to stay up until 10:23 . So I decided to do it. Not for Starbucks. To get my challenge complete.

The Last-Minute Pi
I was racing to finish. My friend Sophie and I were working on the extra credit math assignment to make a poster on an interesting aspect of pi. We chose data visualization. ( I'm writing this for kids that attend Logan and will see our poster. If not, Google data visualization of pi.) We agreed that she would write and I would find pictures. She opened a new document and shared it with me. I found four interesting pictures of pi data visualization.  She wrote a paragraph and found quotes. There was just one problem: how were we going to assemble the poster? We decided to meet in the AS overflow right after she finished Spanish. I am waiting to see how it resolves.

Cloaked
Johnny works at a shoe repair shop in a hotel in Miami. His best friend is a girl named Meg who runs a coffee shop nearby. One day, a princess shows up at the hotel. She claims her brother Phillepe was kidnapped and turned into a frog. She promises to marry Johnny if he can rescue her brother. She gives him two objects to help him succeed- a cloak that can instantly teleport him anywhere he wants to go, and an earpiece that lets him communicate with humans turned into animals.

Our fish tank has 10 fish. It is a tropical community tank. We have 5 neon tetras, 3 diamond tetras, and 2 sunburst platies. Our diamond tetras are named Diamond, Emerald, and Sapphire. The other 7 look too similar to other members of their own species to have names of their own. They mostly school with their own kinds. It is calming to watch them and notice new things. I attepmted to add pictures, but my computer was being stupid. :(

The Elevator
I heard arguing coming from inside the elevator. I thought it would be funny to capture the moment forever, so I pulled out my phone and made a video. This slice is based off that video.

We were on our way out of the Iron Horse Hotel at Winter Park resort. I was a little worried because I had a slice of life due by the next morning, a math chapter review due Tuesday, and an optional pi poster with a concept due (likely) on Tuesday as well. I managed to pull into the elevator al the last moment. With me were my dad, my brother Griffin (10), my dad's friend Ananda, Ananda's son Sam (11) and daughter Elliott (4 or 5).

"We're going to parking! Not 1!" shouted Sam after Elliott pressed the wrong button.
"Well, we're going to get there someday. Yesterday you pressed every button there was. Remember?" asked Dad. He and Sam laughed.
"Now we press the button," Griffin stated.
     "1!"Elliott laughed. The doors opened.
"Sam, can you grab her jacket from the backpack? It fell off. Can you just grab it from me real quick? Put it on the cart. Thank you. " Ananda said. "All right you guys are great. Everyone ate a good breakfast?"
"No, not that one Ellie. Good one," Dad said as Elliott hit the open button.
"I hit the close button. And she hit the open one," grumbled Sam. Griffin hit the "L" button.
"Lobby isn't where we're going." said Dad.
       "Oh," stated Elliott.
       "Oops," said Griffin.
       "OPEN, OPEN, OPEN," yelled Sam.
"It's not going to work," remarked Elliott.
"Stop pushing buttons, Sam." said Ananda.
"What? I clicked close," said Sam.
"Thank you," said Dad and Ananda.
"Let's just go down to parking," I mumbled.
Griffin told me it was the next stop.
        "All out," said Dad.
        We got off the elevator.
