Wings of Fire- The Dragonet Prophecy

When the war has lasted twenty years,
The dragonets will come.
When the land is soaked in blood and tears,
Tsunami
The dragonets will come.

Find the SeaWing egg of deepest blue.
Wings of night will come to you.
The largest egg in mountain high
Will bring to you the wings of sky.
For wings of earth, search through the mud
For an egg the color of dragon blood.
And hidden alone from the rival queens
The SandWing egg awaits unseen.
Sunny

Of three queens who blister and blaze and burn,
Clay
Two shall die and one shall learn
If she bows to a power stronger and higher,
She'll have the power of wings of fire.

Five eggs to hatch on the brightest night,
Five dragons born to end the fight,
Darkness will rise to bring the night,
The dragonets are coming...

Ever since the death of Queen Oasis, her daughters, Blister, Blaze, and Burn, have fought over the SandWing throne. Then a NightWing utters a prophecy, and everything changes. The eggs are taken, but Burn, suspicious of prophecies, breaks the SkyWing egg. The anti-war effort, the Talons of Peace, take an egg from the RainWings instead. RainWings are prejudiced against because they have no known natural weapons except camouflage and sleep almost all the time. Six years later, Clay the MudWing is very bighearted but not the best fighter against their trainer Kestrel, a SkyWing with strange burn scars. Of his friends, Tsunami the SeaWing is the best fighter, as well as very rebellious. Starflight the NightWing's mind reading and divination powers haven't come yet, but he makes up for it by knowing every piece of knowledge he's ever read. Sunny the SandWing is kind and honest, but her scales are darker than other SandWings, her eyes are too light, and she is missing her barbed tail, a SandWing's greatest natural weapon. Glory the RainWing studies and trains the hardest of them all, but the teachers are still prejudiced against her. One night, Tsunami makes a plan to break them out of the mountain they've always lived in. Clay wants to see the world, but he is worried about their teachers' retaliation. And however mean their teachers might be, they don't want to kill them. That can't be said about the other dragons in the world.

The High King

Taran is not an Assistant Pig-Keeper bent on becoming a fearsome warrior any more. He is now the friend of Prince Gwydion, warleader of the House of Don; Princess Eilonwy, fierce princess who happens to find herself in on almost every adventure; Gurgi, monstorous ally with a softer side; and Fflewdur Flam, reluctant king and unofficial bard who often "gives a little more color to the facts". But one day, when Gwydion shows up dying with his magical sword, Dyrnwen, missing, fooled by an incredibly realistic illusion of Taran, they realize that only one has the power to change his shape: Arawn, lord of death.

Eight Keys

Elise has two dead parents, a bully for a lockermate, and eight mysterious doors in the upper story of her aunt and uncle's (modern-tech, as of early 21st century, when the story is set) barn. Her aunt and uncle love her like they would the child(ren) they never had. Her classmate Amanda always drops her books on top of her lunch, but the teacher never cares, it's always "just an accident", day after day after day. One day, she discovers a mysterious key, and realizes that there is a mystery around her. She must unlock the past to ready for the future.

Poetry map

Great vegetables and tall plants in bloom                            Let all the troubles you have go,
At Logan, gardening is a true enjoyment.                            It calls: the call of a book.
Red strawberries, yellow sunflowers, green stalks,             Bring on the fantasy, poetry,
Do it right, and these greet you.                                           Ready the nonfiction.
Even if it's not perfect, it's natural.                                       And if you have to research,
No artificial beauty can compete,                                         Readily tear through the books
In a cooking class, it will taste divine.                                 You are in the right spot.
Nourishing a plant makes you happier
Go and plant a garden!

Limerick Blog

There once was a poem called a limerick
Who talked pompoms and poodles and proteins that are trimeric
The poems might be full of floccinaucinihilipilifacations
But they have gone through acclimatizations
Even if they're written by a nudnik.

Free Verse Poem

                                                                           I am surrounded
                                                          By that which I love
The days I could spend, and look through
All in this room, and never find the last
Of it.
But I could go, and go learn, learn all there is in here, and enjoy myself forever.
I could enjoy the books of stated fact, of answers true and bold, for all to know.
I could listen to encouragement, the real, true lives of those that faced a challenge.
And overcame it, or I could hear the news of discoveries and new scientific facts.
And maybe I could listen to the legends, of dragons and wardrobes and magic rings.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Seven years ago, Harry Potter was just an orphaned kid getting bullied by his cousin. He didn't know he had magical powers, or even that his parents didn't die in a car crash. Now he is a powerful young wizard who is out to  get revenge on the corrupted Ministry of Magic, avenge his parents, and destroy the evil Lord Voldemort with the help of friends Ron and Hermione. He knows Voldemort's secret: he has split his soul and placed the parts in a collection of objects called Horcruxes. He knows it will probably kill him, but he has already reconciled with himself the fact that he will probably die. Ron and Hermione know that too, and are fighting with a hope they will see the sun rise in a peaceful sky.

Occasional Poetry Blog

They line up,
A duel to the death,
One will die, one will gain victory.
It happened all to often.
It will mean their lives if they lose,
Fame, glory, and wealth if they win.

A pair of kids on the playground,
Two people in a Starbucks,
Two grandmasters in a tournament.
The minds have come to play strategy.
A jumble of black and white squares,
Sixteen pieces on each side.

The knights grab the reigns,
The townsfolk their weapons,
The royalty their crowns.
They watch their friends captured and killed,
They look for an opportunity to survive.

The contest rages,
Sacrifices are made,
Moves and countermoves.
There is just logic.
One will have victory,
The other, a checkmate.

Ode Blog

Cute, innocent,
I brought joy wherever I went.
On four furry legs I ran,
I got laughs from woman, child, and man.
I had nothing to fear,
I was graceful as a deer.
I was happy every day
Life was no work and all play.
Everyone was my new friend,
I played and laughed without an end.

I am the color of wood, or, night, or snow.
I run with joy where I go.
I run past the tree, onto the grass,
I see another me running through the glass.
I sniff, but it I cannot smell.
I decide to run out past the well.
One of my human friends meets me there,
She runs her finger on my hair.
The feeling I get now I'm not in the stall,
Joy and happiness says it all.

Pretties

Tally Youngblood is finally pretty. She finally sees eye-to-eye with her Pretty friends. She is part of the popular group The Crims, composed of Pretties who were "tricky" as Uglies. But then she meets one of her friends from the New Smoke, Croy, and is smuggled a letter from herself several months ago, as well as some pills to cure "Pretty-headedness", a mental condition given to Pretties to make them shallow, empty-headed, and forgetful of their days as Uglies. But Tally knows Special Circumstances will kill if she truly works against them.

Haiku Blog

      Pencil in hand,
Or document opened up,
I will write today.

      The land is asleep.
All is a blanket of white.
Winter is here now.

      A butterfly lands.
The flowers, trees, and plants grow.
It is the green spring.

      Waves crash on the beach.
Planes buzz in the azure sky.
Summer comes to town.

      A crisp wind flies through.
The leaves turn red then brown.
Fall covers the land.

THE KAM TRAP
This is a trap SOL designed to catch all who bear the name Kam Plasek and are an assistant teacher at  the Logan School for Creative Learning. This was designed to attract her interest from the very start. The purpose of this trap was to tell her how much we will miss her and want her to stay. But we know that you will have an awesome life elsewhere and are happy for you to be getting a step closer to your dream. Goodbye and good luck.

PS. It's crazy the photos you find on the Web.

Tomboy

Liz is a complete tomboy. She feels that there is no one like her in the world. And there is not. She struggles with feminine stereotypes and whatever makes her so different from the boys. She is thought weird by many others as well as herself. Although calamities occur in her life, she learns to know herself better, and realises over time how to be herself.

Scuba Diving
I went scuba diving. I have scubaed in a pool here in Denver before, but not in the ocean of the Bahamas. I went to a ship used in a set for a James Bond movie. There was a bunch of awesome coral growing off of the ship. It was a pretty realistic looking set. The water was pretty cold, but I was wearing a wetsuit. We were guided around by some certified professionals. It was really cool.  The image below is the set we explored and a kind of fish I saw.

  The Cats of Julia
Julia brought many cats and took them all home.
But she had no food for them to call their own.
Two of them died the following day.
They were sold, Julia's dream now had a way.
But a little while later, drunk driver Avery came along.
When the cat bodies hit the windows, they made the sound PONG!
Selling them to McDonalds made a path to show
How Julia's cats would live to this mo'.

Darwin Awards
The Darwin Awards are "Named in honor of Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, the Darwin Awards commemorate those who improve our gene pool by removing themselves from it." In other words, they are given if to those who died incredibly stupid deaths. Examples:
  • The robber who broke into a FIREARMS shop
  • The man who asked to be killed so he could be resurrected by an AMATEUR
  • Two men who took selfies with a WILD ELEPHANT
  • 90 MPH

Fyre
Fourteen year old Septimus Heap, apprenticed to ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand, at last has a chance to destroy the Two-Faced Ring, golden prison of Darke wizards Shamandrigger Saarn and Drammandonnar Naarn, by putting it into the Alchemical Fyre. But five hundred years previously, the Fyre was extinguished because it grew out of control. On top of that, a Queen several thousand years past had shot both with a miniature crossbow, provoking them to swear veangence on her descendants, including Septimus's adopted sister Jenna Heap. Jenna doesn't know how she can deal with both that and the looming pressure to become Queen and suceed her dead mother at last.

Almond Roca
=
AWESOMENESS!!!!!
The title is self-explanitary, but I will explain an almond roca to anyone who has  the misfortune to never taste it. First, you see the wrapper. The rocas themselves are about 2" long and have a gold wrapper with the words ALMOND ROCA written on them. Then you unwrap it. A delicius smell I can't describe wafts through the air. The roca is covered in milk chocolate with a bunch of almond pieces in it. You can scrape off a piece of the chocolate and encounter something hard that is toffee in a  rectangular shape with larger almonds in it. You take a bite of the toffee. It tastes like delicious toffee with almond mixed in.

Pathfinders
Pathfinder is a role playing game, or RPG, I play. It is (usually) set in medievel times. You have certain rules and restrictions in creating your character. You start by choosing your character's race (human, elf, dwarf, hafling, half-elf, half-orc, gnome), abilities, and personality. Then you pick a class, which defines your strengths and weaknesses, as well as your powers. Common classes are barbarians, bards, clerics, druids, fighters, paladins, rouges, sorcerors, and wizards. As you level up, you unlock new powers. However, my character, an elf bard, has some problem with nearly getting  killed in EVERY DARN FIGHT!!!!! I think her armor is too low, as she has just a +4 chain shirt and +1 Dexterity, making her Armor Class 15 (using weapon attack bonusus you have to roll a 15 or more to hit her); or, being the only girl in my questing group, the enemies for some reason love killing girls; or I just have too low hit points, even though that number is common in my questing group.
This is a long video on how to build a character using the Beginner's Box:

Fencing is a sport I do. It is really fun. I am pretty good at it. I started this around this time last year. I was pretty bad when I started. Over time I got better. Fencing is an event in a pentathalon, which composes fencing, running, swimming, horseback riding, and archery. It is also an Olympic sport. I find it funny that I am better at medievel sports like archery and fencing than most modern ones like soccer and baseball.

Five Feet Under
I woke up excited. The blizzard had stopped! I had traveled to my family in California and was in the cabin when it had started as a snowstorm. But normal snowstorms do not go on for so long you see, through the huge front window, the snow piling higher than the top of the sofa. I had never seen so much snow in one place before.  That day my mother and I walked out into the front of the cabin and a little off the porch. Then we began to dig. When we hit solid ground it was far taller than I was. Mom, her head a little above the top of snowy walls, said that it was about five feet. We set about digging the walls and other parts of the fort. I suggested that there be a small pit in the front to hold pre-made snowballs. Mom used the snow from the pit to make said snowballs. When Uncle Marty walked by we threw a snowball and missed, revealing our location. The snow fort has long since melted, leaving a flood of memories.

I want to do a survey on individual spirit animals soon and look for trends in age group and gender.

Darke
Septimus Heap was very scared. His Darke Week, taking on a Darke project of his choice, was nearly upon him. He had an idea what he wanted to do. In the midst of Banishing Tertius Fume, an evil ghost who had tried to kill Septimus and siege the Wizard Tower multiple times, Septimus's tutor, ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand, had accidently Banished kindly ex-ExtraOrdinary Wizard Alther Mella, who was like a father to Marcia. Septimus decides to go to the Darke Halls, home of Banished ghosts, and rescue Alther. At the same time, a Darknesse is slowly creeping over the Wizard Tower, the Palace, and the Castle. Septimus knows he will need help from Marcia, his adoptive twin sister Jenna (if bieng born at the same time and being adopted into his family makes her his twin), his dragon Spit Fyre, and Marcellus Pye, the Castle Alchemist, to battle the growing Darke.

March 16

I waited, breathless, as I prepared to go in. I was just wearing a swimsuit, and, as I entered the water, what appeared to be a giant mechanical bubble. I had to go slowly and was weighed down by the "bubble". We (me and a bunch of other people also doing this) had to move along an iron rod placed there for this purpose. Some workers passed us things like dead coral. As we moved further along the rod, I noticed the purpose of a structure on the side. I knew ASL letter symbols and spelled SHIPWRECK to Mom, who had no idea what I was saying. We had our pictures taken after that to compile into an hour-long video. As I got on the boat, I thought how lucky I was to have a book to curl up with.

A Place in Time
This blog is for the benefit of those that didn't see the IS show, A Place In Time, last year. The IS (intermediate school) play is created by the actors and written by the director. The three ideas were contemporary, medieval, and time travel. Time travel won a thin margin over medieval, so we decided to do time travel to medieval times. It was so cool. If you go to Logan, the library kept the tape.

Rump
Rump is twelve years old, but he stopped growing when he was eight. And even then he was small. In a land where your name controls your destiny, he is the butt of everyone's jokes. When he was born, his mother only got out the first part of his name before her death. He knows there is more to him than he knows so far. Living on The Mountain, he is forced to mine for gold, his results determining his rations. One day, he finds his mother's old spinning wheel. When all the wool in the house has been stolen by mischevious pixies, he starts spinning straw. For some odd reason, it comes out as gold. When he has almost starved, he trades gold to the fat greedy miller. But as his friend Red has warned, the side affects of magic can be dangerous. He is unable to negotiate prices. When the gold reaches King B.A.R.F.(Bartholemew Archibald Reginald Fife), the miller claims his beautiful daughter Opal spun it. When she is taken away, Rump knows he has to help her. But the magic requires a price for each use. On the third night, Opal promises her firstborn child as a joke. Rump knows that when he learns she has given birth, he will have to go to collect the price he didn't wan't, and that Opal wasn't willing to pay. He must learn how to escape the price. But how?

To Describe a Glove
At first sight, it is just a glove. But I don't think it's just that. It is tawny brown, faded from long use. It has embroidery seams half an inch thick. They were likely once white, but are now somewhere between yellow and beige. The inside is coated with fleece that is wearing awasy at some places. The outside is old leather that is discolored and hardened in some places. I think it is from dipping into swamp water because on the thumb there is a clear line between the part that is discolored and the part that is not. My grandma gave me them at thanksgiving this year. They fit like a pair of gloves.

Lighting Problems and Other Set Quirks
I yawned. I felt like I had been waiting forever.I knew this rehearsal was mostly about the crew, but I felt like the cast shouldn't just be sitting there. People came around and started asking if anyone wanted any pizza. I decided to order two slices of cheese. It cost $4.50. I was lucky to have a five dollar bill in my pocket. The pizza was very good. After lunch, it was time to start rehearsing. They started with the music for the first scene. However, there was a lighting problem that no one had any idea what it was. After sitting a while more, David decided to have the cast rehearse lines in the Myg. About to get started, Lori told us that we could come back in.they were still having a problem with the lighting, but they decided to go nevertheless. The play was completely different with all the sound and lighting. The best words I have to describe it are "really cool". We finally had all the props and set. The water pump even had water! I felt like I made a mess of my own lines. I skipped too many, I think. I did a good job being blind, but I apparently was too quiet. But I like to be an observer. Everyone else did a really great job. We only got through act I, but I am very excited to get this show on the road.

March SOL 6

It was 10am in the morning. I was kind of hungry. Dad told me I could make my own breakfast, so I decided to.
I had not had waffles in awhile and I wanted to try it again. I am very good at making waffles. I asked Dad where the waffle mix was, and he told me it was in the mudroom. I grabbed my favorite waffle mix and headed off to the kitchen. First, I looked at the instructions on the can. Since my Dad didn't want any waffles, and my brother was at a sleepover birthday party, I decided to make a half recipe. The problem was that the recipe called for one egg, and I didn't know how to get half an egg. Dad told me that if I put an egg in a bowl, mixed it up, and poured half in to the mixture.
After the recipe was done (but not the baking), I thought of "Twist waffles." I had gotten the idea from having cinnamon-vanilla waffles when I was younger. I wanted to try a twist that I had never done before and I had an idea.
I began to look for the vanilla. Dad told me he could see the vanilla, but not where it was on the shelf.  I thought it was the almond extract for awhile. When I finally found it, I asked Dad to give me a boost, but found it was the "Magic-Shell" chocolate sauce. Dad told me that regular chocolate sauce was in the refrigerator -- I had not seen any of this before. I added in half a capful of vanilla and a couple of squirts of chocolate sauce. I mixed them together and made one waffle for me and 1/4 for my Dad. We didn't have any whip cream, so my Dad suggested to put cold vanilla ice cream on the hot toasty waffles. It was delicous!

She opened a new document and shared it with me. I found four interesting pictures of pi data visualization.  She wrote a paragraph and found quotes. There was just one problem: how were we going to assemble the poster? We decided to meet in the AS overflow right after she finished Spanish. I am waiting to see how it resolves.

Our fish tank has 10 fish. It is a tropical community tank. We have 5 neon tetras, 3 diamond tetras, and 2 sunburst platies. Our diamond tetras are named Diamond, Emerald, and Sapphire. The other 7 look too similar to other members of their own species to have names of their own. They mostly school with their own kinds. It is calming to watch them and notice new things. I attepmted to add pictures, but my computer was being stupid. :(

The Elevator
I heard arguing coming from inside the elevator. I thought it would be funny to capture the moment forever, so I pulled out my phone and made a video. This slice is based off that video.

We were on our way out of the Iron Horse Hotel at Winter Park resort. I was a little worried because I had a slice of life due by the next morning, a math chapter review due Tuesday, and an optional pi poster with a concept due (likely) on Tuesday as well. I managed to pull into the elevator al the last moment. With me were my dad, my brother Griffin (10), my dad's friend Ananda, Ananda's son Sam (11) and daughter Elliott (4 or 5).

"We're going to parking! Not 1!" shouted Sam after Elliott pressed the wrong button.
"Well, we're going to get there someday. Yesterday you pressed every button there was. Remember?" asked Dad. He and Sam laughed.
"Now we press the button," Griffin stated.
     "1!"Elliott laughed. The doors opened.
"Sam, can you grab her jacket from the backpack? It fell off. Can you just grab it from me real quick? Put it on the cart. Thank you. " Ananda said. "All right you guys are great. Everyone ate a good breakfast?"
"No, not that one Ellie. Good one," Dad said as Elliott hit the open button.
"I hit the close button. And she hit the open one," grumbled Sam. Griffin hit the "L" button.
"Lobby isn't where we're going." said Dad.
       "Oh," stated Elliott.
       "Oops," said Griffin.
       "OPEN, OPEN, OPEN," yelled Sam.
"It's not going to work," remarked Elliott.
"Stop pushing buttons, Sam." said Ananda.
"What? I clicked close," said Sam.
"Thank you," said Dad and Ananda.
"Let's just go down to parking," I mumbled.
Griffin told me it was the next stop.
        "All out," said Dad.
        We got off the elevator.

Book blog 1/24

I choose a book by looking at other's blogs and what is written on the books themselves. I then decide if the story is interesting. My favorite kinds of books are fantasy, but I'm becoming interested in historical fiction.

I don't really have a favorite book, but one of my favorites is Brisingr, the third book in the Inheritance Cycle. I blogged on it earlier. The Inheritance Cycle (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance),  is about a 15 to 17 year old Dragon Rider named Eragon and his dragon, Saphira. (He is 15 at the beginning of the series and 17 at the end.) The Empire is ruled ruled by the evil King Galbatorix, a Rider who went made at the death of his dragon, and destroyed the rest of the Riders, besides the ones who would serve him.  Galbatorix being immortal, as all Riders are, Eragon is the world's only hope against him.

          The Lions of Little Rock

Marlee is so non talkative, her classmates think she's mute. But she has very strong opinions that don't show.  She thinks shutting down her sister Judy's high school instead of opposing segregation is the wrong thing to do. But one wouldn't know it. In comes Liz. She is very different from Marlee, always knowing what to say. However, it's the first time Marlee has actually had a friend. Liz's skin is quite tan, like she spent the whole summer at the pool, but Marlee can't recall seeing her before. She doesn't care at all- not until she learns Liz is actually black and got expelled. Marlee decides she wants the only friend she ever had back. She doesn't know the cost.

Centuar Rising

Arianne knew why it happened. During the Perseids Meteor Shower, as everyone else was going to bed, she saw a large meteor sail over the fence and an old pony, Agora, trot towards it. A year, later, Agora gave birth to a baby centaur. Arianne's disabled younger brother bonded with him immediately, but the centaur, named Kai, is only known of to him, Arianne, their mother, their housekeeper, and the vet who delivered him (And Agora of course). They pretend the foal was born diseased, but riders at their family's small stable are becoming suspicious. Arianne must figure out a way to get Kai safe, and fast- the press are coming.

SOL # 10

I cautiously moved into the bleachers, looking around. There were "GO LIGHTNING!" signs all around.
"OK, I will play Ellie as center." Dina tapped Talia on the head. "Forward, forward"- she touched me, "Guard"-she pointed at Noa-"Point- Is Lydia Loof here? All right, Helen."
Ellie, Talia, Noa, Helen, and I ran to the middle. The game started.
I was in for an entire quarter. The teachers got the first basket, but we got two baskets after that. I didn't score any, or even shoot, but I played fairly well. The boys on the Gold team went next. At halftime, we were down 4-6. The teachers put on a really cool halftime show, but I was too worried to laugh. The girls on Maroon were up next. Both teams were more offense oriented, evidenced by the fact that the score was now 10-16. The boys on Purple then walked on the court.
Both teams were playing their hardest. One boy actually shot a three pointer. I glanced up to the clock at ten seconds. We were behind 27-28. Then Rowan managed to steal the ball and shoot it at 0.9- seconds. We won 29-28.

Inheritance

Eragon is finally ready. Ready to fulfill the werecat Solembum's prophecy, go to the Rock of Kuthain and speak his name to open the Vault of Souls. Ready to take revenge from his half brother Murtagh(rider of the red dragon Thorn, forced to serve the dark king Galbatorix) for the death of the dwarf king Hrothgar and the elf Oromis, last (previously) surviving member of the ancient dragon riders, bonded to the golden dragon Glaedr and the teacher of Eragon and his sapphire blue dragon, Saphira. Finally ready to kill Galbatorix. For who else can? As the rider of the black dragon Shruikan, Galbatorix has a Rider's powers only another can hope to match. Oromis and Glaedr were killed by Galbatorix and Shruikan's minds, controlling Murtagh's arm and Thorn's jaw. Murtagh and Thorn were forced to swear loyalty by magic and can, as Murtagh puts it, "barely put his boots on without Galbatorix's consent". A century of the hopes of Riders, elves, dwarves, members of the resistance movement, and people under Galbatorix's rule fall on Eragon and Saphira.

SOL #9

I wish I went to this school. The day I shadowed was like a vacation. Everyone was like me. They appreciated me. I think I remember the way to John's class. I hope the kids there remember me. I walk into the overflow. There I spot someone I know. She has long light brown hair and is a lot taller than me. "Sofie!" I exclaim. "I'm Sophia, I toured your class in December."More than that, I shadowed her.    She pauses for a second, then recognizes me. We exchange conversation, then I try some fry bread. Once I try it, I can't stop. I check up on other kids I met. I hope I go to this school. The day I shadowed was like a dream. Everyone will be like me. They will appreciate me.

Rethinking Normal

Luke Hill knew something was wrong with him in society's eyes. He felt like a girl trapped in the body of a boy. He was chronically depressed from ages eight to fifteen. At fifteen, he realized he was transgender. He realized there was a way to become Katie. There was a way for her to become who she was born to be.

As a small child, she had demonstrated girl-like behaviors, asked for an Easy-Bake oven, liked boys but wanted them to like her back as a girl. Growing older, she had attempted suicide and dropped out of high school. This narrative is written when she is in college, the first place where her peers don't know her past, where she feels she can be judged by who she is, not who others want her to be.

Civil Rights

I think civil rights are important because, without them, we would have no peanut butter, folding cabinet beds, potato chips, Walker Hair Care System, or gas mask. People who deny others rights are denying one of the laws of the Constitution. Logan would not have many of the awesome people we do if civil rights weren't in place. Many people who are against civil rights follow other laws of the Constitution. We are allowed to prejudice, but to deny others human rights? That's just cruel.

Snow SOL- The Wipeout

We had gotten up early this morning. To be more specific, we had gotten up at 4:30 AM, which could have been 12:30 for all the difference I felt. We had met up with my father's friend and his son, and driven to Winter Park. I had skied so much I felt I could drop. My dad had told me that, after this run, I could eat lunch. We had taken  the chairlift up, and then skied to where we would have to break off to a steep section at the very bottom. I was miserable and annoyed. The two men-Dad and his friend-gave us instructions for going down. I thought they were done when I headed off.

It is too fast, much too fast. I think back to Ski School. I despised it and ranked it an 11 on the 1 to 10 Stupidness Scale, and it had taught me no practical advice. The only thing that applied to the situation was to "make a pizza wedge with my feet". This only accelerates me. I then try desperately to make it to the turnoff. I still insist ski poles could have saved me.

I wake up on the other side of the fence. I am not sure what happened. It seems less than a millisecond after my memory lapsed. The best I can later piece together is that I ran full-force into the  plastic-mesh fence, flipped over, and had my face knocked into the snow. That is the reason I got a black eye, a bloody nose, and a swollen lip. A bunch of health care people spirited me off into an office. After what seemed like an eternity, Dad arrived.

Brisingr

Eragon and his dragon Saphira have suffered a horrible betrayal two days ago. He has learned his unknown father is Morzan, leader of the foresworn, servants to the dark king Galbatorix, and his brother, Murtagh, has been forced to turn evil. He often wishes he had never found a large sapphire that hatched into Saphira. If he'd never said where it came from while attempting to trade it...He cannot spend much time dwelling on the past. He needs to help his cousin Roran rescue his girlfriend Katrina from the clutches of evil monsters, and assist the rebellion movement, the dwarves of Tronjheim, and the elves of Ellesmara, all while attempting to find out just why Galbatorix gets more powerful year by year.

SOL #8

“Why do I have to go rock climbing? I have a lot of homework to do,” I collapsed on my bed with my dad watching me.
“Because this is the only time this weekend the Cupps are available.”
            “Why go at all?”I mumbled.

In an hour, we arrived at the rock climb area. In addition to the rock walls, there was a ladder and a knotted rope, both stretching to the ceiling. I walked over to the ladder and asked Dad if I could play on the rope. He said it was too close to where Griffin was climbing, but we could slackline instead. I climbed a rock wall easily twice. Then I tried the slackline. It was very hard to balance on, but it made a great bouncer-except when Griffin was sitting on it.  I also swung around in the rope. I learned that if you jumped off the slackline with the rope, you got a really cool swing. I also learned they had free butterscotch and peppermint candies. When I got home, I had a lot of homework waiting for me.

Revolution

The year is 1964. The state is Mississippi. The town is Greenwood. Change is no longer coming. It's here.
Sunny and Gillette are celebrating the one-year anniversary of them becoming siblings... by swimming at midnight in the (segregated) town pool. There , Sunny bumps into an African American boy who had the same plans as them. He was wearing white high tops. Sunny decides to figure out more about the boy.

Raymond was breaking the law, swimming in an all white pool in the middle of the night. The black pool had been drained many years past, and he had never been swimming. Change is coming to his neighborhood. A bunch of college kids from the North have come to Mississippi, and are trying to get blacks to vote. Raymond decides to try. Many years before, his sister had died of a ruptured appendix no white doctor would treat. He hopes she will be the last of her kind. She wasn't the first.

10 reasons Griffin is annoying
  1. He won't pay attention to me.
  2. Je tawks leek zees.
  3. He cheats to pretend he's winning.
  4. When playing basketball with him, nothing is illegal-not traveling, not 5 seconds, ect.
  5. One night, he wasn't tired, so he stole and took 1 melatonin pill(I take 2 each night, and only had the next night's supply left)and we had a lot of trouble getting the bottle 1 NIGHT EARLY!
  6. His unit is the same as his mini unit last year
  7. I came up with the idea of having a scuba sleepover at Denver Divers. ME! And it's Griffin's second party like that in a row!
  8. he texts like this. (look at the last SOL for the code) (last figure is a .)
  9. He steals a lot of my ideas.
  10. He gives me negative attention, which my parents say means he wants to play with me. BUT WHEN HE PLAYS, HE CHEATS!
  11. No one notices any of the above but me.

Queste

A month before, Septimus Heap was kidnapped and dragged five hundred years into the past by Marcellus Pye. His brother Nicko, adoptive sister Jenna, and friend Snorri Snorrelson (plus Snorri's Magykal cat Ullr) went back to save him. But Snorri and Nicko were left behind. Septimus and Jenna are determined to get them back. But there is a problem. Septimus is the apprentice of Marcia Overstrand, the ExtraOrdinary Wizard. Once in every apprenticeship, the apprentice must draw a stone from a jar. If the stone is ordinary lapis lazuli, the apprentice is safe. If it is inscribed with a golden Q, the apprentice must go on a dangerous quest no one's returned from. After numerous failures an evil gost finally slips the stone to Septimus. But he, Jenna, and their good friend Beetle are on a dangerous mission to rescue Nicko and Snorri. Darke forces are after him. Out of many Questers at the last day of their apprenticeship, none have come back. How can Septimus, only in the third year of his apprenticeship, hope to succeed?
